Kosher: everything you need to know about foods suitable for the dietary rules established by the Jewish religion Shir Food e Wine certification and services

What does Kosher mean in Hebrew?

The term Kosher, which is pronounced by Ashkenazi Jews košer or kōshēr, but which is also written Kasher is a Hebrew adjective that can be translated with the terms “adequate”, “suitable”, “pure”, “right” and which indicates foods permitted to Jews as they comply with the dietary rules established by the Torah and interpreted by the Talmud.

For Jews, eating Kosher means eating all those foods that are in accordance with the laws of Kasherut and this practice is closely linked to one’s physical health.

The concept is very simple: the foods we eat and assimilate become an integral part of the body and consequently, eating ‘pure’ (Kosher) foods allows you to keep your body, mind and spirit healthy.

On the contrary, eating non-Kosher foods which are also defined as “Tarefá”, that is impure, dirty or forbidden, also compromises the body’s health.
